The Internet of Things (IoT) will soon touch nearly all of the interactions we have with our world and with the things around us, and the interaction of those things with each other. GT-RNOC is developing a number of IoT-related projects that help students demonstrate and better understand some of the complexity and range of applications that the IoT encompasses. We invite students and faculty alike to bring their fun or serious project ideas or to join in the development of one of our existing projects. Our hardware includes Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP8266, combined with a wide variety of sensors, communicating over WiFi, Bluetooth, RFID, and others. Development opportunities exist in hardware hacking, mobile apps, back-end, wireless networking, system architecture, software/system security, and more. GT-RNOC is also currently working with GT Professional Education to develop course offerings in the topic and sub-topics of IoT, with class offerings expected to begin in 2016. We welcome other faculty and researchers who are interested in collaborating on these efforts to share the stories of their work in this arena.
